Health Insurance UK

The aim of this site is to provide consumers with well researched, objective information on the UK health insurance market.

If you put 'health insurance' into your search engine - as you may just have done - you get a fairly mind boggling response. The amount of information out there on the net on this particular topic is extraordinary. But just how much of it is relevant?

And, more to the point, how much of it is objective? We suggest the answer is not that much. Most sites on health insurance in the UK fall into one of two categories. Either they are sites owned by a particular insurance company trying to sell you their product (and often it is not clear unless you look very hard that this is the case). Or they are directory type sites with almost no information on them at all. These sites are basically 'hard sell' marketing platforms designed to get you to part with your money as quickly as possible.

We like to think we are a bit different. What we want to do is plug the information gap and provide you with facts not a sales pitch. If you want to click the links page to the left and get a quotation for a policy having looked at our site you can do so. And we make no apology for the fact that we will make a little bit of money if you do. But equally you can go elsewhere if you want to or not buy anything at all. That's equally fine. Because we're here primarily to provide information.

Basically there are two different types of health insurance cover:

(i) insurance which reimburses expenditure you incur (private medical  or private long term care insurance); and

(ii) insurance which compensates for loss of income if you become too ill to work

The circumstances in which you would want one type on cover rather than the other are very different and we would encourage you to make sure you understand this distinction properly before parting with any money. In essence the decision to opt for private health care insurance is - for most people - to do with convenience and comfort. The logic for taking out a critical illness or income protection policy would generally be to guard against the possibility of the main bread winner in the family being unable to work.

The buttons to the left provide further information on those aspects of the health insurance market that we think will be of most interest to you. Specifically we look at:

Private Medical Insurance (1st category): provides information on private health insurance

Long Term Care Insurance (1st category): looks at how to insure yourself against the costs of private residential care

Critical Illness Insurance (2nd category) : examines what constitutes critical illness and what happens if you become critically ill under a critical illness policy

Income Protection Insurance (2nd category): provides comparable information on income protection insurance

Glossary: runs through some of the terms you are likely to come across and explains what they mean

Links: puts you in touch with someone who will be able to provide you with a quotation for one of these four types of policy if you want one

And finally our little sales pitch: WE ARE COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT AND WE DON'T SELL INSURANCE
